About Lumistrel
Lumistrel is browser software for process and instrumentation engineers: a P&ID editor with engineering data behind every symbol, an HMI training simulator built from the same drawing, and Lumistrel Academy. It is made by Praharsh Nagpure.

What Lumistrel is
- A P&ID editor. Draw piping and instrumentation diagrams with ISA-5.1-style symbols. Every symbol carries engineering data: tags are read and checked as you type, lines know what they carry, and checks run across every sheet. From the same drawing it produces the instrument index and line list, loop diagrams and instrument datasheets, and exports to SVG, PNG, PDF and DXF, plus an XML export shaped for DEXPI that is still being developed.
- An HMI training simulator. Build operator screens from the drawing and run them as a live training simulation, with faceplates, alarms, trends, control loops and training upsets such as a pump trip or a stuck valve. Its plant model works out flows and pressures from valve positions and pump curves. It is a training aid, not a validated model of a real plant.
- Lumistrel Academy. Labs for practising how to read a P&ID and run a plant, including exercises on the simulator. Trainers can run classes, set labs and record sign-offs. It issues no certificates and claims no qualification for anyone.
- Teams. Shared projects where one person at a time checks a drawing out, reviewers leave notes, approvers sign revisions, and an audit trail records who did what.
Formerly IPD Studio
Until 26 October 2026, Lumistrel was called IPD Studio. Only the name changed. Drawings saved as .pnid files with IPD Studio open in Lumistrel unchanged.
Who makes it
Lumistrel is made and run by Praharsh Nagpure, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He designs and builds it, answers the email, and is the person responsible for it. No company has been registered for it yet. You can write to him directly at contact@lumistrel.com.
What it stands for
- It refuses to guess. Engineering drawings and plant simulations are relied on. Where the software cannot give a sound answer, such as a simulation that will not settle, or a value nobody entered, it says so instead of showing a number that only looks right.
- It works local-first. You can draw, check, simulate and export in your browser without an account, and it keeps working without a connection once it has loaded. An account is only for what has to be shared or kept in the cloud.
- Your drawings stay yours. A P&ID can reveal a whole plant. We do not use your drawings to train AI, we do not sell them, and the optional AI assistant runs only on your own key, sends only a limited summary, never the file, and goes straight from your browser to the provider you chose. Our privacy policy lists everything we keep.
- It is a tool for engineers, not a replacement for one. Everything it produces is a draft for a qualified engineer to review. See our terms.
Standards
Lumistrel is designed with engineering conventions in mind, including ISA-5.1 (symbols and tag letters), ISA-5.4 (loop diagrams), ISA-20 (instrument datasheets), ISA-101 (HMI design) and ISA-18.2 (alarm management). It names them only to describe the conventions it follows. It has not been formally assessed or certified against any of them, and no standard text is reproduced in it; its symbols are original artwork. Lumistrel is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the International Society of Automation (ISA).
