1. These terms

Lumistrel is run by Praharsh Nagpure, an individual in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India ("we", "us"). These terms apply when you use the website at lumistrel.com (opens in a new tab) and the software in it: the P&ID editor, the HMI training simulator, Lumistrel Academy and team accounts (together, "the service"). Lumistrel was called IPD Studio until 26 October 2026.

By using the service, or by creating an account, you agree to these terms, to our privacy policy and to our refund and cancellation policy. If you use the service for a company or another organisation, you agree for it, and you confirm you are allowed to. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. The service

Lumistrel is browser software for drawing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), checking them, producing deliverables from them, building operator training screens and simulations from them, and learning to read and run a plant through Lumistrel Academy.

  • The editor works in your browser, without an account. Your work is kept in your browser and in files you save to your computer.
  • An account adds saving to the cloud, Academy records that follow you, and teams: shared projects, check-out locks, review notes, signed approvals and an audit trail.
  • An optional AI assistant works only with your own key from an AI provider (section 11).

We improve the service often. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something you pay for in a way that matters to you, we will tell you in advance, and you may cancel and get a refund of the unused part of what you prepaid.

3. Who may use it

You must be 18 or older and able to enter a binding contract. You must not use the service if the law of India or of where you are forbids you to.

4. Your account

  • Give a real email address that you control, and keep your sign-in details to yourself. An account is for one person.
  • You are responsible for what is done with your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.
  • In a team, the team's owners decide who joins, each member's role and who can see each project. Drawings made in a team belong to the team, not to the member who drew them.

5. Evaluation and paid plans

Lumistrel is sold as a paid subscription. Every plan is paid: for individuals, students, schools, colleges, universities, training centres, nonprofit bodies and companies alike. There is no unpaid plan.

Evaluation. You may use Lumistrel without charge for 60 days to decide whether it suits you, including at work and for a company. After 60 days, keep using it only with a paid plan.

Paid plans are not on sale yet. Until they are, you may keep using the service after your evaluation on the evaluation terms. We will announce plans and prices on this site, and email account holders, at least 30 days before a paid plan is required.

Each plan's price, what it includes, how many people it covers and how long it runs will be shown before you pay. A plan is for the people it covers; do not share an account to stretch it. Running the software on your own servers needs a separate written agreement (section 14).

6. Fees, renewal and taxes

  • You pay in advance for each period of a plan (for example, a month or a year).
  • If a plan renews by itself, we tell you so before you buy, and you can turn renewal off at any time. We will remind you before a yearly plan renews.
  • If we change a price, the new price applies from your next period, never to one you have paid for, and we tell you at least 30 days before.
  • Prices will be stated with any taxes that apply. We are not registered for GST today; if we register, we will add GST where the law requires and show it before you pay.

7. Cancelling, and refunds

You may cancel at any time, with no cancellation fee. Your plan then runs to the end of the period you paid for, and does not renew. When and how we refund is in our refund and cancellation policy, which is part of these terms.

8. Your content stays yours

"Your content" means the drawings, data, files, comments and other material you put into the service or make with it. You own your content. These terms give us no ownership of it.

  • You give us only the permission we need to store, copy, show and transmit your content so the service works for you and for the people you choose to share it with. That permission ends when your content is deleted, except for copies the people you shared it with already hold.
  • We do not use your content to train AI models, ours or anyone else's, and we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
  • We do not look at your content except to keep the service working, to act on a request from you, or when the law requires it.
  • You can export your drawings at any time as .pnid files, a documented, readable format, and as SVG, PNG, PDF, DXF and other exports.
  • You confirm you have the right to put your content into the service, including any drawing you trace or import that belongs to someone else, such as a client.

9. A tool for engineers, not a replacement for one

Lumistrel helps you draw, check and simulate. It does not make engineering decisions, and it is not a substitute for the judgment of a qualified engineer.

  • Every deliverable needs engineer review. Drawings, lists, loop diagrams, datasheets, exports and check results are drafts. A qualified engineer must review and approve them before anyone relies on them for design, purchase, construction, commissioning or operation. A passing check means only that the rules it ran found nothing; it does not mean a design is complete, correct or safe.
  • The simulator is a training aid. It is not a validated model of any real process, and its numbers are not design figures. Where it cannot answer, it says so, but a result it does give can still differ from a real plant. Never connect it to real plant control, safety instrumented systems or live equipment.
  • Lumistrel Academy issues no certificates. Nothing in it, including scores, passes, records and trainer sign-offs, is a qualification or evidence that anyone is competent or authorised to do any job.
  • The assistant can be wrong. Check everything it tells you against the drawing. It may explain what your project data says; it never decides whether a design is compliant, safe or correct.
  • You stay responsible for the designs, documents and decisions you make with the service, and for checking them against the codes, standards and laws that apply to your project.

10. Standards and ISA

Lumistrel refers to engineering standards, such as ISA-5.1, only by their designation, to describe the conventions it follows. It has not been certified against any standard. Lumistrel is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the International Society of Automation (ISA), and no ISA standard text is reproduced in it. Its symbols are original artwork.

11. AI providers under your own key

The assistant is off until you add a key you got from an AI provider (Anthropic, OpenRouter or Groq). Your requests then go from your browser directly to that provider, under the agreement between you and them. We are not a party to it, we do not see your key or your requests, and we are not responsible for how the provider handles them, for its charges or for its availability. What is sent is set out in our privacy policy.

12. Acceptable use

Do not use the service to host, show, upload, change, publish, send, store or share anything that:

  • belongs to someone else and that you have no right to use;
  • is obscene, pornographic, paedophilic, invasive of someone's privacy, harassing on the basis of gender, racially or ethnically objectionable, relates to or encourages money laundering or gambling, or promotes enmity between groups on grounds of religion or caste with intent to incite violence;
  • is harmful to children;
  • infringes a patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary right;
  • deceives or misleads about where it came from, or knowingly spreads information that is false or misleading;
  • impersonates another person;
  • threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, its relations with other countries or public order, incites an offence, obstructs an investigation, or insults another nation;
  • contains a virus or other code meant to disrupt, damage or limit any computer system;
  • breaks any law in force.

Also, do not:

  • get around or test the service's security, limits or access rules on our live service (report security problems to us instead; see Contact);
  • overload the service, or copy it or its content in bulk by automated means;
  • resell, rent out or host the service for others without a written agreement with us;
  • use it to break export-control or sanctions laws.

If you break these rules, we may remove the content, suspend your access or end your account (section 16). We remind account holders of these rules at least once a year.

13. Our rights in the service

We own the software, its symbol artwork, its training content and the Lumistrel name and marks. These terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service while you are allowed to under section 5, and nothing more. If you send us suggestions, we may use them freely, without owing you anything.

14. The source code is licensed separately

These terms cover the service. They do not give you the software's source code. The source code is private; any right to it comes only from a written agreement with us, or from a licence that came with a copy we published earlier. Those earlier licences cover only the copies they came with, and they give no right to use the hosted service. Self-hosting and other commercial arrangements are explained in our licensing document; write to contact@lumistrel.com for a copy or to discuss one.

15. Availability and support

We work to keep the service running and to answer you quickly (see Contact for response times), but we do not promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, and we offer no service-level agreement unless one is signed with you. The editor keeps working in your browser without a connection, and your drawings are kept on your device. Keep your own copies of drawings that matter: export them, or save them as files.

16. Suspension and ending

  • You may stop using the service at any time, and delete your data as our privacy policy explains.
  • We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect the service or other users. Unless the law or the risk prevents it, we will tell you first, give our reason and give you a chance to put things right.
  • If we end your access without you being at fault, we refund the unused part of what you prepaid.
  • If your access ends, we keep your saved drawings for at least 60 days so you can export them, unless the law requires otherwise or you ask us to delete them sooner. We email you before we delete them.
  • Sections 8, 9, 10, 13 and 17 to 21 continue after your access ends.

17. Disclaimers

To the extent the law allows, the service is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no promise beyond what these terms say, including any promise that it is fit for a particular purpose, that its results are accurate or complete, or that your content will never be lost. Nothing here takes away a right you have under consumer protection law that cannot be given up by contract.

18. Limits on our liability

  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or data, or the cost of replacement services.
  • We are not liable for loss that comes from relying on output of the service without the engineer review section 9 requires.
  • Otherwise, our total liability to you for all claims about the service is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the event that caused the claim, and ₹5,000.
  • These limits do not apply to liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

19. Your responsibility to us

If someone makes a claim against us because of your content, because you broke these terms or the law, or because a design or document you made with the service was relied on without the review section 9 requires, you will cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, to the extent the law allows. We will tell you promptly about such a claim and let you help defend it.

20. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If you have a complaint, write to us first (section 22): most things can be settled that way, and we will try in good faith for 30 days. If that does not work, the courts at Mumbai, Maharashtra, have exclusive jurisdiction.

This does not take away your right, as a consumer, to bring a complaint before a consumer commission where you live, or any protection the law of your own country gives you that cannot be given up by contract.

21. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. For a change that matters, we will post the new terms here and email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect; a change the law requires may take effect sooner. If you do not agree to a change, stop using the service and cancel before it takes effect, and we refund the unused part of what you prepaid. The date at the top shows the current version.

These terms, the privacy policy and the refund and cancellation policy are the whole agreement about the service, unless we sign a separate written agreement with you. If any part cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up. You may not transfer these terms to someone else without our written consent. We are not responsible for delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control. These terms are written in English, and the English text is the one that applies.

22. Contact and grievance officer

Write to contact@lumistrel.com. Our grievance officer is Praharsh Nagpure, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, at the same address: we acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days. More on the Contact page.
